Cantanamus, who are a chamber choir of about 24 singers based in Warwickshire, invite you to join them for a concert of seasonal songs and readings at The Hall next Saturday.

“Our September concert, devised by new Musical Director Matthew Smallwood, features a wonderful mix of a cappella songs that will lift your spirits or melt you away. You will hear timeless masterpieces from legendary composers like William Byrd and Hubert Parry. We will also perform stunning, modern pieces O Radiant Dawn by James MacMillan and Frank Ticheli’s Earth Song. To top it off, we are bringing some jazz flair to the stage with the famous George Gershwin tune I Got Rhythm and the bright, joyful Country Gardens – the funny version!

With so many styles and even more surprises in store, and interspersed with carefully chosen readings by Anne Hume, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

There will be home made cakes in the interval. Many of us are excellent cooks when we aren’t singing.”

Fish and Chips and Comedy Theatre all in one evening!

As well as our ‘3rd Thursday‘ fish and chip and bar social evening, we have Stratford Comedy Club bringing the laughs to The Hall this week.

A great night of comedy will be packed into the Gallery, courtesy of 3 hilarious acts, and MC for the evening, local comedian Ashley Frieze from 8.00 – 10.30.

The Catchy Fish van and the Hall Bar will be welcoming anyone and everyone – for fish and chips and other delicious offerings from 6:00-8:00 pm, so come early and make a whole evening of it!

Comedy Theatre and Fish and Chips all in one evening!

Stratford Theatre Company are bringing the established Stratford Comedy Club to The Hall for the first time from 8.00 – 10.30 pm.

A great night of comedy will be packed into the Gallery, courtesy of 3 hilarious acts, and MC for the evening, local comedian Ashley Frieze.

Cheri-festivities at our lovely local, The Cherington, from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd August with proceeds going towards Cotswold Friends

Join Helen and the team for a great weekend of music and fun at The Cherington from this Friday.

The timetable includes:

Friday 21st from 7.00: Free music from the charismatic Pete Watkins (See poster below)

Saturday 22nd: 12.00 – 4.00: Family fun in the garden with games and a bouncy castle
5.30: Tug of War over the river – expect to get wet!

Sunday 23rd: Chilled out music from our talented locals locals in the garden
6.30 Quiz – booking essential £2 pp

There will be also be a raffle with lots of great prizes.

Proceeds will be going to this year’s local charity Cotswold Friends who are based in Moreton-in-Marsh and support vulnerable and older people in the community.

Repairs and Restoration at St John the Baptist, Cherington

Our lovely church, St John the Baptist in Cherington needs some TLC…

See report below on the ‘Quinquennial’ from Roger Maycock of the PCC:

‘Certain repair and restoration work needs to take place on the structure of our village church.  As custodians of this ancient building, the PCC have had a thorough survey (commonly known as a Quinquennial) undertaken by an approved professional.

The result of which is that we will need to commence a programme of works which is estimated could cost in the region of £60,000 (at current rates).  This can be scheduled over a staged period to fit with the degree of urgency of the various facets of work.  The biggest single item is the restoration of the Nave window which is estimated to cost £12,000.

Our aim is that the church will remain open for the majority of the time, and certainly for the services that normally take place.’

A reflection on a wonderful day from from the Show organisers :

‘As the sun sets on another Cherington & Stourton Show, we just wanted to say… thank you. 💚

Today was everything a village show should be. Sunshine, laughter, fantastic music, incredible displays, happy families, and a real sense of community. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate what makes our village so special.

Events like this don’t just happen. They are made possible by an amazing team of volunteers, supporters, exhibitors, sponsors, entertainers, and every single person who came through the gate today. Your support means more than you know.

In a world that often feels so busy, today was a reminder of how important community really is. Seeing generations of families making memories together, friends catching up, children laughing, and everyone enjoying the day made all the hard work worthwhile.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making the 2026 Cherington & Stourton Show so special. We hope you leave with wonderful memories, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year. ❤️‘
